About

I'm an art and architectural historian with a particular eye for how the built environment reflects and shapes culture. My research focuses on Renaissance and early modern architecture, with special interest in women's roles as patrons, designers, and builders.

I teach at Virginia Commonwealth University and Richard Bland College, and I direct digital research for Telling Their Stories: Black Artists in Virginia Historic Homes, a grant-funded digital humanities project at VCU.

Beyond the academy, I write about culture in all its forms—travel, music, the moments that reveal something true about how we live. I run check one two, a quarterly music zine. I spent years writing about arts and culture for Style Weekly in Richmond.

What connects all of this work is a commitment to telling the stories of people who have been overlooked or underrepresented—women builders and patrons, overlooked artists, indie musicians. I believe in the power of careful observation and thoughtful curation.
